New Edition and New Kids Unite!
July 2nd, 2008 | Written by Massiah | Topic: Music, News, R&BNow that 80’s supergroup New Kids On The Block have reunited after 14 years it’s only right that we see New Edition Together Again.
NKOTB recorded a song with NE last week - bringing Ralph, Ronnie, Johnny, Ricky and Mike together, 6 years after their last album. All NE members were there minus the infamous bad-boy Bobby Brown, who is set to tour solo this August.
The ensemble track, is titled Full Service, and will appear on NKOTB’s not-yet-titled upcoming album, scheduled for September.
Song producer Nadir “RedOne” Khawat says, “Donnie Wahlberg had this idea for a few months, since New Kids had the idea of getting back together really. Donnie’s been looking for that one track for all of them and I think we found it.”
The song was written by Wahlberg, Khawat, and New York disco diva Lady GaGa. Lady GaGa is performing at Prive in Las Vegas on Friday, for a July 4th Celebration.
A little history… New Edition was created by producer Maurice Starr in the early 80’s and with some success Starr then tried to recreate that sound with 5-white boys - New Kids on The Block, in the mid-80’s. NKOTB became a a sensation for young girls all over the world, until they seperated in the early 90’s.
New Edition’s Ralph Tresvant addressed the rumors that the two Boston-boybands have been feuding for years. He said, “The thing people were going back and forth with was we’d been doing what we were doing for the longest [but] we couldn’t get cartoons and things that the white guys were getting. It was like, ‘wow’. But the guys themselves, we have mad love.”
